
Dr. Janice Harte, Assistant Professor
Dr. Harte was recently selected as the 2008 recipient of the CANR Howard and Lili Ann Camden Endowed Teacher/Scholar Award. This award recognizes faculty who have a demonstrated record of help students develop creative and critical thinking skills, entrepreneurship skills and judgement through innovative teaching. Dr. Harte also serves as the faculty advisor for the FSHN Student Product Development Team that competes at the annual Institute of Food Technologist's meeting.
The MSU Food Product Development Team was selected as one of the six finalists in this year’s Institute of Food Technologists Student Association (IFTSA) Product Development Competition, following last year’s first place win. There were a total of 24 team entries this year and the proposals were evaluated by 5 industry judges. The MSU product is “Ready-to Dough!” a refrigerated cookie dough designed for consumers with food allergies (see attachment).
The national competition will be held at the Institute of Food Technologists’ annual meeting in New Orleans, June 28-June 3. The competition involves preparation of a 22-page written report, oral and poster presentations before an audience and a panel of judges, and a private tasting session with the judges.
The team has drawn its student members from four departments in CANR with the core from FSHN.

Dr. Lorraine Weatherspoon, Associate Professor and

Dr. Weatherspoon was recently selected as a 2007-08 Outstanding Faculty Award Winner selected by the MSU Senior Class Council. This award is presented annually to faculty or staff members who have exemplified achievement both personally and professionally through determination, enthusiasm and love for Michigan State University.
